Your economics is so old…
its birth certificate is in hieroglyphics! BURN!
Ok, arguably not my best work but it’s what came to mind when I read Brad DeLong’s response an op-ed by Art Laffer (pointed out by the K man).
I try to joke because this isn’t even funny anymore (I’m not Laffing… ok, I’m done now). There is widespread economic suffering and we’re supposed to be arguing a point that was put to rest 183 years ago by none other than John Stuart Mill? I wonder if Laffer wrote the piece on a typewriter which William Burt was awarded a patent for in the same year Laffer’s argument was discredited, 1829.
In an unrelated note, I’m almost done reading Krugman’s latest End This Depression Now and I’ve been so moved by the quotes from Keynes’ The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (published in 1936, by the way), that I ordered my own copy.
Totally unrelated. What?
